Hanoi, explained by the people who walk it every week

Short, practical pieces from our guides. Not destination marketing — the things we end up explaining on every single tour.

Before you walk Hanoi

Three things worth knowing before your first morning here, all of which we repeat on almost every tour.

  • The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is closed on Mondays and Fridays, and shuts by 11:00 in the cool season and 10:30 in the hot one. Plan Ba Dinh for the early morning.
  • The Old Quarter's weekend walking street closes to traffic from Friday evening to Sunday night — the easiest time to walk with children.
  • Wear shoes you can walk five kilometres in and clothes that cover your shoulders and knees if pagodas are on your route.

Walk it with a guide

Everything on this page is easier to absorb with someone answering questions as you go. Our walks are free and our guides live here.

Who writes these posts?
Members of the club — the same students who guide the walks — with light editing from the communications board.
How often do you publish?
Irregularly. Posts are written between semesters and around club activities rather than to a content calendar.
